This is a preface to a dissertation in which the author is expressing his gratitude to his thesis director.
The translations I find for magisterio are teaching or teaching profession but it just doesn't sound well in this sentence:

My suggestion: dissertation/thesis supervision (tis might be more used in UK English though), but guidance would fit too.
